issue 3. Fashion week forever

HAPPY BEST MONTH OF THE YEAR!

This month is, for us teachers, the beginning of the year. So, happy new year! Many new things are happening, and the best part is that age and experience fill you with more confidence and calm, for everything. It is great.

It is also the month of fashion. Believe me, in some years, I will be writing this from other cities, but from now it is ok to build it slowly. Learning patience is essential and things taste better when they are not that easy, right?

The month starts with some bags under my eyes from walking around 5 cities in 2 weeks, taking classes to learn my 5th language and putting my feet in cold water, because my phone has counted 160k steps in 10 days. But my calendar is full of events and classes. Not that I am going to 50 parties, but there 50 things happening and I don’t want to miss out.

As always, I have been studying the schedule of every fashion week, and the 1st day of Madrid FW was on the first day I have met my students from this year. I like how my both worlds feel so connected sometimes.

So I met them, and I went straight to check the visibility around Jardines de Sabatini, in Madrid. (I had time to dive in the pool and change to a new dress at home in between). I didn’t call anybody to join me because not everybody is free on a Monday at 7, or not everybody wants to be. So, as the plan was exhausting enough, I left home looking flawless and jumped in the bus for 45 minutes.

Well, you could see everything.

There is, really, I promise, nothing in this world that feels better than getting to see just 1 small part of such creative expression. I felt so lucky to I couldn’t believe it and that is why so many pictures are so blurry hehe I couldn’t focus. Everything happens so fast that if you miss it, there is no going back. That is also part of the charm. I am learning how to use my new camera, but if I am honest, I don’t want to take perfect pictures. I actually like them unfocused, it feels like it is a dream or a vision… (exactly what it is to me!!!!!!!)

I remember being 20 in Paris. I never skip school so I waited for my teachers to stop explaining, I finished all my notes and then I would RUN to the metro, line 8, 27 stops from my banlieu university to the city center. I had already spent hours at night learning the schedules to every show, every location, and in 2019 we had no ChatGPT so you had to list them all by time, by proximity… and make 0 mistakes if you wanted to see everything! I would do that instead of joining every Erasmus party, tho. (I don’t regret it, living in Paris was for my fashion and art interests, not for passing out everyday of the week hehe, just on Saturdays).

One of these times I went to the Opera, I could take pictures of Doutzen Kroes, and then I saw Carine Roitfeld (whom I would see again in 2023 stopping by a red light in that same city, and her driver had put the windows down, so when the car stopped in front of me I was like… that’s Carine Roitfeld…) So I said “bonjour, Madame Roitfeld” and we talked a little bit until the light went green. I had seen many of her works in magazines since always, so I knew what to talk to her about. The only thing I regret is that this magazine was just an idea back then, but I told her I was working on it! She encouraged me to keep going. This sounds absolutely hard to believe but I asked her for a selfie and even her driver is in the picture. I have to look for it and leave it here.

So, going back to that fashion show I went to after uni, I took the MOST INSANE picture of my life. A picture of Alexa Chung from the back, in a big vapurous dress, in the cold of January in Paris, and as the background, probably like 47 photographers. So I guess there is a picture of me behind Alexa Chung taken by a few photographers, because I was .exactly behind her lol. But that picture will never see the light of day. I want it printed and framed, full size, HQ, in my living room in my future home one day. It is too good to share…
