issue 7. Food and fashion
Last week, Yolancris shared my story on their Instagram, so I think I am going to be feeling over the moon for the rest of the… month? year? life? Right in between their high quality photography, that’s where they decided to put my blog. You don’t only need people you know to feel supported, maybe support is going to come from absolutely really big designers!!!! But I love my friends following my little magazine and it means the world to me. So, I am having a lot of fun and didn’t really expect this to happen at all. You should have seen my face…
Right after that happened, I went back to sewing after the summer. I am so obsessed and disciplined and stubborn and I find this so fun that you’ll be buying something by me in a few years.
To begin, I am embroidering T-shirts and gifting them to my friends as drop number 1. Cheap now, worth a lot in some years, so ask for one asap! This is something I started doing at… 19?
I remember sewing my favorite song and my mom’s nickname on a shirt, or my vintage denim jacket that I bought in El Rastro with a very hippie friend of mine many years ago, a shirt I used in arts class. I once took it to Paris. I also used to sew shirts for my friends, they still have them, and they wear them!!!!
Sewing is harder than I expected. I recorded a video on the first day to remember how to use the machine. After 20 classes, I still had to watch it… But I am getting there! Having a 9 to 5 is not easy, ok? But I now take private lessons and someone gifted me her old sewing machine so my competitors should feel scared, I am speedin ahead now!! I want to know fashion history, fashion design and sewing! I can’t imagine separating books, shows and ateliers.
It all started with my grandma. She could do everything from scratch, a dress, a cake, a family… and would always look for the Moon before going to bed. When she died, I drew us on a swing on the Moon, eating home made pizza and having a sleepover, watching Hannah Montana episodes together and with some of her clothes around. That’s my representation of a great love.
My grandma was the most talented person I have ever met. Her closet was full of her dresses and fabrics, and she could also paint and teach you how to treat everybody! She was and is an angel. So every time I sew I think of my grandma. Even the first fashion school I attended was named after her. Now that’s a coincidence! But I don’t think so…
My grandpa would buy me chips and hide them from everybody, so I could eat the whole bag when I visited. With a my mouth full, I would then go to my grandma and she would show me dresses, so now that’s all I love! Food and fashion. I always want to ask them everything, starting by where the best restaurant is, tips for sewing, and if they miss me as much as I miss them.
I once read that Alexander McQueen’s first ever collection paid homage to his father, he was a “Taxi driver”. But Gianni Versace called his after him. I like this part of fashion, the story behind it, the person you want people to know about, your roots, your weirdest ideas. I accept suggestions for my collection! Whatever happens this year is whatever I am calling it, or I just go to some very logical name, something about my fabulous grandma.
Sometimes, support also comes from people you don’t know, and sometimes you just have to look at the Moon.
So, now that you read it all, you have the pass to ask for a free t-shirt from the first drop (only before 11/10/2026), hehe
